■文法

(1)間接疑問文 I don't know.とWhat is this?という２つの文を、英語で１つの文にまとめるとき、以下の語順になる。 I don't know. What is this ? (私はわかりません。これは何ですか？) 　 I don't know what this is. (私はこれが何であるかわかりません。) このように、疑問詞で始まる疑問文が、他の文の一部になる文を間接疑問文という。 間接疑問文の語順は、疑問詞＋主語＋(助)動詞〜になる。 間接疑問文はwhat以外にも、すべての疑問詞を使ってつくることができる。 ただし、疑問詞が主語になる場合は、疑問詞＋動詞〜になる。 I don't know who came here. (私はだれがここに来たのか知らない。) (2)間接疑問文の肯定文・否定文・疑問文 間接疑問文にも肯定文、否定文、疑問文があり、以下のようになる。 肯定文 You know what this is (あなたはこれが何であるか知っている。) 否定文 You don't know what this is   (あなたはこれが何であるか知らない。) 疑問文 Do you know what this is ?   (あなたはこれが何であるか知っていますか。) (3)ifを使った間接疑問文 ifは疑問詞ではないが、「〜かどうか」という意味をもっているので、間接疑問文にすることができる。 I want to know if he is sick. (私は彼が病気であるかどうか知りたい。) (4)時制の一致 疑問詞の前の部分(主節)が過去ときは、疑問詞の後の部分(従属節)も過去にそろえる。 その際、従属節は日本語訳をするときは、現在で表す。 I asked him what I could do. (私は何ができるかを彼にたずねた。) (5)その他の注意点 間接疑問文の疑問詞の後で、未来を表すときはwillを使う。 時、条件を表す接続詞 I will not go there if it ranns tomorrow. (もし明日雨ならそこに行かない。) 現在形                   間接疑問文 I don't know what he will do.   (私は彼が何をするのか知らない。)           未来形         間接疑問文は、疑問詞１つだけとは限らない。 Tell me how many books you have. (本を何冊持っているか教えて。) I asked him what time it was. (私は彼に何時かをたずねた。) I wonder＋間接疑問で「〜かしら」という表現になる。 I winder if he will come. (彼はここに来るのかしら。)
